This painting is a portrait of John Frazier who, with a few other English traders on the upper Allegheny River in 1752, were visited by friendly local Native Americans that appreciated his skill at metal repair. By mid 1753 the French had taken his cabin at Venango and he fled to Turtle Creek near the Monongahela River. His cabin there was visited by young George Washington in 1753 and 1754.
